We have been enjoying friends and scenery amidst sunshine and rain showers in lovely Atascadero. Tom cooked us a lovely dinner when we first arrived. Next Dean, Dave, Tom and His Nibbs and I went together on a wild ride to the coast. Returned on an appropriately twisty motorcycle favorite, Old Creek Road.

Next we invaded Richard’s serenity. He is the most amazing host in the world. I cannot reveal his location, because he would be inundated with people and dogs all wanting to stay Chez Richard. He even lets all three hounds up on his couches! His and Sharon’s dogs are slightly less fond of the big dogs, and Sophie has been known to make Nasty Face.

Parkfield
We had time for the best burger on the West Coast. We know this, because we have sampled it on about 7 different trips (at least)! It is in a little town, population 18. The Parkfield cafe is done up in a western theme that would rival anything Texas has to offer. On the wall is a photo of a county rodeo where they took all the Model A Fords and made a circle with them for the rodeo area.
All the county branding irons hang from the ceiling, the bar chairs are various western saddles on stools, and the burger. The Burger. These are flavorful, tasty, from local beef, with things like blue cheese and aioli sauce.

Parkfield is quite near the San Andreas fault, discovered in 1895. Wikipedia says this fault is a continental transform fault extending 750 miles through California. It forms the tectonic boundary between the Pacific Plate and the North American Plate. It slips from 20 to 35 mm per year.

Leaving town, heading to Bakersfield
